This
is a very wide field of products ranging from a simple black
and white instruction booklet to an elaborate product brochure
printed in full colour with special finishes and fold out
pages.
Whatever its like it will be carefully produced from start
to finish. We produce books with and without card covers on
gloss and matt papers using different binding systems:
Saddle Stitched
Sheets folded and fastened with wire stitches (stapled).
Perfect Bound
System for thicker books using a wrap round cover
with spine.
Wiro Bound
Pages punched and fastened with a wire frame passing
through the holes a more expensive system than Saddle Stitching
or Perfect Binding but has the advantage of strength and the
book can be laid flat to work from.
Plastic Coil Bound
Similar system to Wiro Binding but using a continuous plastic
coil.
Setting up artwork
Set up the document to the finished page size and supply in
consecutive pages, not printers or readers pairs. Where possible
avoid using the ‘Facing Pages’ feature of certain
programmes when initially setting your page size. This can
make it very awkward to include any bleed into the spines
of Perfect and Wiro bound books.
When adding folios (page numbers) to a document it is generally
accepted that page one will appear as a right hand page, therefore
all right hand pages will be an odd number and all left hand
pages an even number. Page one will either be the front cover
or the first right hand page after the cover.
If the cover and text are printed on the same material (self
cover) count the cover as page one but if the cover is printed
on a different or heavier material insert the page one folio
on the first right hand page after the cover.
